King Kong Magazine | Film & Marketing

Overview

“SUPERNATURAL” explores the patriarchy’s consideration of natural bodies to be monstrous and abject, in quintessential King Kong Magazine style. Also see below the striking brand report and creative solution I devised to boost the brand.

Taking the common trope in horror films where the body, motherhood, and puberty are a source of monstrosity, this video would thrive in King Kong’s portfolio and fulfill a gap in the market with its surreal visuals and uplifting, unconventional display of bodies. Both the format and themes of monsters, mayhem and ritual, as well as gender, violence, and the abject, are true to the brand’s expression in a topical and untapped way.

Behind the Scenes

CREATIVE STRATEGY

A university project devising a Brand Report and Creative Outcome solution to best advance the success of biannual independent fashion and art magazine King Kong.

Brand Report

A detailed study of the experimental cult magazine, including brand, market, consumer, and channel audit analysis. This includes a 360 analysis of their consumer touchpoints, client profile, competitors, SWOT analysis, and discerning a gap in the market for the company to explore.

Creative Outcome

Bespoke, comprehensive, and innovative, the Creative Outcome showcases a plan of action for the brand to undertake in response to the analysis within the Brand Report. I suggested the brand create a nightclub and art space where their cult following can interact with the magazine and build a community that channels the inclusive, experimental spirit of King Kong.
